Bungy Jumping | Canyoning | Climbing
Mountain Biking | Paraglliding | Rafting & Kayaking
In addition to some of the best trekking and mountain climbing on the planet, Nepal has a host of other adventure activities. So, when your trek is completed, save up your last reserves of energy for some adrenalin pumping action.
Bungy Jumping
Northeast of Kathmandu, just 12kms from the Tibetan border can be found one of the world’s longest bungy jumps. This 160m teeth gritting, heart thumping drop is in a narrow canyon of the Bhote Kosi River. The jump can be done on a one-day trip from Kathmandu.
Canyoning
This combines abseiling, climbing, sliding and swimming. Never abseiled? Never mind. You’ll receive instructions as part of the trip cost. The venue is the Bhote Kosi valley northeast of Kathmandu. This is a 2 day trip.
Climbing
Rock Climbing: Opportunities are limited due to rock quality and ease of access but there are reasonable rock walls in the Kathmandu Valley and in Dhading west of Kathmandu. Novices can also receive instructions and equipment is available for rental.
Mountaineering Courses: The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) runs month long courses in the Manang Valley.
Trekking Peaks: The NMA has designated 18 peaks that may be climbed by special permit which is significantly less expensive than the permits required to climb major peaks. The degree of difficulty varies but some can be climbed by novices provided they are accompanied by experienced mountaineers. These are best climbed with an organised, commercial company.
Major Peaks: Prior experience is generally necessary in order to join a commercial or private expedition.
Mountain Biking
Nepal is perfect for mountain biking. There are many trails and roads over a diverse terrain and there is no lack of opportunity even if you only have a day to spare. The Kathmandu Valley has a huge network of trails to explore and there are quality tour operators to provide a bike, experienced guides and transportation. If you wish to do longer, overnight trips considering bring your own bike or bikes are available for hire.
Paragliding
You have a choice of signing up for a paragliding course and eventually completing a solo flight or doing a tandem flight with an experienced instructor. Pokhara is the Mecca of paragliding in Nepal. Flights take off from a high ridge overlooking the Pokhara Valley with the majestic Annapurna range as a back drop.
Rafting & Kayaking
Nepal has long been recognised as rafting and kayaking nirvana. You can experience the full gamut of river adventures from stomach churning descents through massive rapids to serene drifts along quiet, slow moving passages. Whatever your level of expertise or ambition, the rivers of Nepal will have what you’re after.
