Nepal 'Everest Base Camp
and Gokyo Lakes' 2012

Below is a overview of the Nepal Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes Itinerary. For a more detailed itinerary, please download our trip brochure, or contact us to request a printed brochure to be posted to you.

Day1

Met on arrival in Kathmandu and transferred to our Hotel for 2nights. Twin share accommodation,

Day 2

Explore the mystical city of Kathmandu. Trek briefing at 4pm. (1300m) (Hotel, twin share, B)

Day 3

Spectacular flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Commence  an easy day of trekking to our first lodge in Phakdingma (2640m) (BLD)

Day 4

Trek through beautiful forests of  pine and rhododendron to Mondzo (2815m) (BLD)

Day 5

Today we reach Namche Bazaar (3440m) the largest village in the Khumbu area. This important Sherpa village now boasts banks, a bakery, and even a cyber cafe. (BLD)

Day 6

Acclimatising day in Namche. Numerous fascinating side treks available, or just rest and explore Namche (BLD)

Day 7

Short trek today to Phostse Tenga (3680m) for acclimatising.  Beautiful views of Ama Dablam (6856M). Today we trek through Khumjung where in the monastery is purported to be a genuine Yeti skull  (BLD)

Day 8

Another short trekking day to  Dole (4090m) to aid acclimatising  (BLD)

Day 9

Stunning scenery today on both sides of the valley as  we  trek to Machhermo (4410m) (BLD)

Day 10

The valley widens as we approach the snout of the massive Ngozumpa Galcier.  Our lodge at Gokyo (4750m)  for 2 nights is on the the shore of a large lake called Dudh Pokhari  (BLD)

Day11

Day in Gokyo. We hike up Gokyo Ri (5360m) for views  of the high Himalaya  peaks including Everest (BLD)

Day 12

Weather permitting we  head out to commence our crossing of  Cho La. Basic Lodge tonight at Tagnag (4600m). If weather does not permit a safe crossing of Cho la, an alternative itinerary is available  (BLD)

Day 13

Early start to cross Cho La (5420m).  We pause on the summit for a snack and to take pictures before descending to a small stone lodge at Dzongla (4910m)  (BLD)

Day 14

High ridge trek  with wonderful mountain views  before descending to the Khumbu glacier and the small village of  Lobuche (4930m) (BLD)

Day 15

Today's walk to our highest  point on the trek Kala Pattar (5623m). From world famous Kala Patar the best  views of Everest are obtained.  We stay tonight below Kala Pattar at Gorak Shep (5140m)  (BLD)

Day 16

From Gorak Shep we trek for 3 hours to arrive at Everest Base Camp(5360m).  We retrace our steps  and descend to the wide glacier valley at  Pheriche (4240m)  (BLD)

Day 17

An easy days trekking down the valley to stay at Deboche (3757m).  Afternoon walk to Tengboche monastery the most important monastery in the Sherpa homelands  (BLD)

Day 18

Because of the lower altitudes today's walk is leisurely to arrive at our favourite lodge above Namche Bazaar (3440m)  (BLD)

Day 19

Easy walk downhill all day to Phakding (2640m)   (BLD)

Day 20

Our last days trekking is easy to the airport at Lukla (BLD)

Day 21

35 minute flight to Kathmandu. Transfer to our Hotel (B)

Day 22

Free day exploring Kathmandu (Hotel, twin share, B)

Day 23

If departing on Flight TG320, you will be transferred to Kathmandu Airport. B)

To enjoy and complete this high altitude trek, adequate acclimatisation is a priority. Back Track has designed the itinerary to allow all trekkers to acclimatise properly. This trek is considered by many to be one of the top 10 treks in the  world.
