KATHMANDU 1300m - Met on arrival and transferred to our hotel. Free time to explore Kathmandu. This evening dine out in the old city. |
Day 2 |
KATHMANDU 1300m (B) - Time to walk through the old city and visit the famous temple complex of Durbar Square, or hire a bicycle and visit the other cities in the Kathmandu Valley, Patan and Bhaktapur. A pre-trek briefing will be held at our hotel at 4.00pm |
Day 3 |
DAY 3. KALIKASTHAN 1160m 30 minutes flight, 1 hour by bus, 1 hour walk, (BLD) - We commence with a short but spectacular flight to the large town of Pokhara, situated at the foot of the Annapurna Range. A short bus journey takes us into the foothills. We trek to our campsite at Kalikasthan with inspiring views of the mountains, extending from Dhaulagiri (8167m) in the west, the Annapurnas to the north and Manaslu (8156m) in the east. |
Day 4 |
LAMAKHET 920m 4hrs, approx (BLD) - The trail follows the valley of the Mardi Khola (stream) and is frequently atop the narrow walls that divide the rice paddy fields. At times the trail climbs steeply to high points above the valley floor. We have an excellent campsite beside the river at Lamakhet. |
Day 5 |
PAAJE 2060m 7hrs, (BLD) - The walk today is long and mainly uphill. We continue to follow the Mardi Khola upstream through fields and villages to the village of Paaje. This area is mainly inhabited by Brahmins and Chetris, the two highest castes of the Hindu caste system. |
Day 6 |
PASSU 2370m 5.5hrs, (BLD) - The trail descends for 30 minutes to Siklis. This is the last place to stock up on supplies as there will be no villages for the next 10 days. The afternoon walk is steep as the trail passes through small farms and grazing areas. Shortly after entering a rain forest we reach our campsite at Passu situated in a small clearing. |
Day 7 |
KARI KHARKA 3586m 5.5hrs, (BLD) - Most of the walk today is a gradual ascent in alpine forests of oak and rhododendron with small grazing pastures and temporary herder’s shelters along the way. We camp in a grazing pasture called Kari Kharka |
Day 8 |
REST DAY AT KARI KHARKA (BLD) - To ensure a safe rate of ascent to high altitude, we have a rest and acclimatization day. To assist our acclimatization we do a half day walk to a scenic vantage point at 3940m. We return to our camp for lunch and spend the afternoon relaxing. |
Day 9 |
KUNA POKHARI 4050m 5.5hrs, (BLD) - We ascend slowly to a small notch in the ridge line. Prepare for a stunning panorama. We see Machhapuchhare, 6697m; Annapurna IV, 7524m; Annapurna II, 7937m; and close up views of Lamjung Himal, 6985m. The mountain views get better as we cross a small pass at 4190m before a steep descent into a high valley. We have a wonderful campsite in a sheltered meadow beside a high altitude lake. There are close-up mountain views to the north and to the south we look down upon mist shrouded valleys. |
Day 10 |
REST DAY AT KUNA POKHARI (BLD) - Another day for rest and acclimatization. To further assist our acclimatization we do a morning walk to a high point (4340m) above a deep glacial valley with excellent close-up views of Lamjung Himal. |
Day 11 |
DUDH POKHARI 4050m 7.5hrs, (BLD) - This is an exhilarating days trek through wild mountain terrain passing through large bolder strewn valleys and crossing 2 passes eventually reaching a high alpine valley which in the autumn is bedecked with colourful alpine flowers. We camp near the beautiful lake called Dudh Pokhari. |
Day 12 |
NANDU DANDA 3600m 6.5hrs, (BLD) - Another stunning trekking day - the trail winds past Dudh Pokhari before climbing out of the valley. After reaching a high point overlooking the Marshyangdi Valley, we commence a long gradual descent. The mountain views today are simply outstanding. Gazing the Eastwards we get close-up, uninterrupted views of Manaslu, Ngadi Chuli and Himal Chuli. To the West we get views of Annapurna 4 and Lamjung Himal. |
Day 13 |
BHAISI KHARKA 2260m 7hrs, (BLD) - There’s a long descent today down the spur of a ridge. The trail enters a beautiful mossy forest of giant juniper, rhododendron and oak. Occasionally the route wanders through open grazing pastures that offer wonderful mountain views. We have a stunning campsite on a shelf of land overlooking the Marshyangdi Valley. |
Day 14 |
BHULBHULE 840m 3.5hrs, (BLD) - Another brief descent through forest takes us to the delightful Gurung village of Dugai, our first village since Day 6. The trail desc ends steeply through rice paddy to the floor of the Marshyangdi Valley and our campsite in the village of Bhulbhule. |
Day 15 |
BESISAHAR 760m 4hrs, (BLD) - From Bhulbhule we cross the Marshyangdi River on a long suspension bridge and proceed on a wide trail to the large town of Besisahar. Tonight we camp in the grounds of a hotel. Here we have a last night party to celebrate the completion of this outstanding trek. |
Day 16 |
KATHMANDU 1300m 6.5 hrs by bus (BL) - We board our bus for the journey back to our Hotel in Kathmandu arriving early afternoon. |

17 & 18 |
KATHMANDU (B) - Free day in Kathmandu for shopping and exploration. This exciting, vibrant city is a favourite destination of travellers from all over the world. Kathmandu is a giant, living museum of Hindu and Buddhist art with more shrines and temples than anywhere else in the world. The Hotel Marshyangdi is located a short walk from the narrow, winding streets of the old city. There's an extraordinary amount of things to do. You can hire a bicycle and visit ancient towns in the Kathmandu Valley, poke around the bazaars and discover real bargains in artwork and souvenirs; or sit by a temple and just soak up the atmosphere as you watch the world go by. In the evening there is a mind-boggling array of quality, yet inexpensive restaurants to dine in.
