Trip Overview
Walking The Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea's Owen Stanley Range is one of our favourite and most challenging treks both mentally and physically. We have been operating treks and expeditions in remote and exotic locations worldwide since 1984. You would be hard pressed to find any other Australian tour operator or travel agency that could match our experience or record.
Safety in remote locations is important and we carry the latest UHF radios and back up state of the art satellite phone communications on all treks. These are linked back to Australia and to our base in Port Moresby, which is manned 24 hours a day. In 2008 we had our first emergency evacuation (broken ankle) from the Kokoda Track. With Evacuation Proceedures in place, our terkker was airlifted out immediately and made a full recovery. The efficiency with which this emergency was handled alone says a lot about the calibre of our professional leaders, our pre trip preparation of clients and attention to detail in trip management. We currently employ 14 people in our Brisbane office with a full time Kokoda Management Officer.
Back Track provides a well tested and proven trekking format. You are accompanied from Australia by a Back Track leader who will ensure the smooth progress of your trek, provide an informed and accurate account of the battle history as you visit each of the major sites, and most importantly our leaders are the type of people who are fun to be with.
We guarantee not to traverse the Track like an army route march. Guaranteed maximum group size 15, including the Leader.
Trekking the Kokoda Track with Back Track Adventures is simply a world class, Guided Adventure Holiday, providing a lot of fun with plenty of challenges and rewards and a never to be forgotten insight into an aspect of Australia's History that will make you even prouder to be Australian.
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
PNG TREKKING CREW PRIVATE ENTERPRISE:
Hot Showers!
Though this is not a prepaid inclusion in the tour package, the team porters have independently developed a small business enterprise for the 2009 trekking season. For a small fee, per person, per shower, paid directly to the crew, they will erect a hot shower tent at each nights camp for your enjoyment. The free alternative is to have the traditional cold plunge in the nearest creek or use the cold washing facilities if available in the camp site area. This is a crew initiative and we are wishing them good luck and hope that our 2009 trekkers will enjoy having the occassional hot shower and in doing so put more money directly into the hands of oue local Kokoda crew.
Read client testimonials about our Kokoda Track treks.
^Though we are not expecting any price increases from our suppliers, airline prices and/or taxes could increase. These increases will be added to our quoted holiday costs.
