Travel Insurance - what you need to know
As the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) state on their website, ‘If you can’t afford travel insurance, you can’t afford to travel’. It’s just not worth the risk to travel overseas without insurance cover. Hospital and repatriation costs to get a traveler back home can be horrendously expensive.
It’s not only medical costs that you need to be insured for. Cancellation, tour operator insolvency, loss of luggage, cash lost or stolen, travel delays and personal liability are just some of the benefits found in most travel insurance policies. One outstanding feature of most policies is a 24 hour, toll free number to call if you get into difficulties likely to result in an insurance claim.
There are a few questions to ask when considering travel insurance. What does the insurance cover? What are the exclusions? (ie: what is not covered in the policy). How much is it going to cost me?
