Overview

Morocco provides the perfect setting to step inside a world so fascinatingly different in so many ways to our own. The history of Morocco underpins our entire journey. We immerse ourselves in the colour and excitement of present day Morocco while exploring and learning the history from our local guides.

For 20 days we wander through mysterious souqs (bazaars), ancient roman sites, and quaint villages. We will walk easy trails in the Atlas Mountains, venture by camel into the never ending sand dunes of the Sahara desert, travel the Route of a1000 Kasbahs and then relax on an Atlantic Ocean beach. Add to all this our exploration of such legendary cities as Marrakech, Casablanca and Fes and you will have completed a fascinating adventure holiday.

The Style of Our Holiday

Throughout the holiday we use only neat, clean, comfortable, well located and secure hotels (Tourist class 2-3 star) most with private facilities. Our hotels are family owned and each has its own unique character. Accept for our first night in Morocco, we have forsaken the more expensive hotels as they tend to isolate us from the local people.

Our arrival Hotel in Casablanca is a very swanky 4 star establishment which is a nice introduction to Morocco, especially after a long flight from Australia.

On our 5 day walk in the Atlas Mountains we stay in clean, mountain huts (Gites) owned by the local Berber people. The Gite accommodation is multi share rooms  with shared facilities.

The trekking during the day is at a very relaxed pace allowing  time to enjoy the views, meet the people and visit their isolated mountain villages.  We can easily reach each days Gite in a leisurely fashion. You will only have to carry a very light day pack as all our gear will be carried on mules.

As well, to make our trek even more enjoyable, we will have our own cook so all meals will be tasty and hygienically prepared.

In the Sahara we spend 1 night in a dessert inn (Auberge) and journey by camel into the endless sea of dunes and spend a night camping in Berber tents as their guests or if you wish your bed can be set up under the desert stars.

Many meals are provided as detailed in the itinerary and where meals are not provided we will eat in only nice establishments at very reasonable prices.

All our road journeys are in a comfortable air conditioned mini bus and we employ only safe and courteous drivers.

At no time on this holiday will you feel isolated from the local people.

Your Back Track Crew

You will be accompanied from Australia by a Back Track leader,Michelle White. Her enthusiasm for Morocco as a holiday destination is infectious.  Once you arrive in Morocco you will be joined by a second Back Track Team member, your guide Yacine el Baraka, a Berber from the Atlas mountains. His energy, enthusiasm, knowledge and cheerful personality will add to the enjoyment of your holiday.
